Things to know about tank covers

Generally

The tank cover protects by its multi-layer construction and an extra-soft lining durable the varnish of the tank and is the basis of an absolutely well thought luggage system. In a few seconds a tank bag can be mounted on only four fastening points. Compared to other luggage solutions this system has the decisive advantage, that the tank bag is not removed regularly for refueling of the motorcycle, but rather the bag can tilted forward over the two front attachment points in the direction of the handlebar.
Until the late 80s tank covers were made exclusively from black faux leather and covered the tank not mandatory completly, but rather protected the varnish especially in the areas of the knees and before the seat. In the meantime we can realize the standard varnish finishes and designs of almost all manufacturers and models with around 100 colours for tank covers. An overview of these colours, which can of course be used for the design of individual special productions, is located at the bottom of this page.

Delivery time for tank covers

Due to the variety of different motorcycle models and colours it is neither us or BAGSTER-France possible to keep all this different tank covers on stock. For this reason, tank covers will produced regularly after your order. The delivery time is approx. 14 days (calculated after the order following working day). The delivery time is extended during the vacation close-down (3 weeks in August) or in the Christmas and Easter periods.

Some very small holes in the surface of the tank covers

These little "holes" can on the production side not be avoided and are rare only on tank covers in light colours visible. To sew the tank cover in their domed shape, it is required, that the components of the tank cover while sewing be fixed by special claws in correct position. These special claws leave some small pinprick holes in the top layer of artificial leather.

Installation of tank covers

About 90% of our petrol tank covers are constructed according to the same Prinzig and the Installation is usually very simple. Desirable, but not realized yet, would an individual installation instructions for each tank cover. We strive therefore, to provide a comprehensive, universal installation instruction. If you still have problems during the installation, please contact us. Mostly we can bring about photos or drawings light into the darkness.

  • Please use the tank cover only on a previously properly cleaned tank. It is advisable to treat the varnish surface previously with a hard wax.
  • Please remove the seat or the front seat cushion.
  • The installation at low temperatures (<20°C) is difficult and unsuitable to reach a satisfactory result.

Cleaning tank covers

Our tank covers are extremely insensitive. Please use for cleaning never abrasive or solvent-based cleaners. Use only lukewarm water with the addition of a dishwasher detergent or a mild soapy solution. With a very soft nail brush can also be removed dirt in the recesses of leather-like surface.

The tank cover can basically remain at the tank during the regular care of the motorcycle. Once or twice per season is the tank cover to dismantle and should then be washed in a bucket of water on the inside. Using a liquid-duty detergent can be done this even in the washing machine (max. 30°C, no spin cycle). After long rides in rain and spray emissions from vehicles ahead, cleaning of the cover should always be done, because dissolved dirt particles can ingress by the water under the cover.

Lacquering or recolour of tank covers

Tank covers are made of synthetic materials, that can be dyed only in the connection with production. Thereafter, the surface of the cover is resistant for the reception of colour pigments. Solvent-based paints would destroy the material and any kind of paint will not take a permanent and above all flexible connection with the material.
